TRAUMA TOUCH THERAPY

When individuals experience trauma, it often separates them from experiencing sensations in the body. This is the body’s attempt to protect from future similar experiences. However, when the nervous system disconnects the body from “negative” sensations, it also disconnects the person from experiencing positive sensation. Trauma Touch Therapy is designed to slowly and gently re-introduce sensations to the client and reconnect them with their body’s wisdom. Trauma Touch Therapy is not psychotherapy, energy work, or massage therapy. Trauma Touch Therapy is a body-based, client-lead, inter-relational healing experience facilitated over ten sessions. The sessions are designed to create a safe container for the client to explore sensations in the body with curiosity, without judgment, and without the need to assign meaning to them. Trauma Touch Therapy offers 5 pathways to safely rediscover sensations including: breath, movement, contact, play, and art. This modality teaches healthy self-regulation, fosters curiosity with the body, develops trust with the body, makes space for sensations and emotions, and allows space for somatic empowerment and transformation. The goal of this experience is not to feel better, but to build skills to get better at feeling.

Clients that would like to participate in these sessions can expect the following:

  • A thorough and extensive intake on the first session to determine if the client is a good candidate to participate in Trauma Touch Therapy.

  • This is a bodywork modality; Trauma Touch Therapists do not diagnose, prescribe, or counsel. This bodywork is especially helpful in supporting those working with a mental health professional and/or other healthcare professionals.

  • Clients need to be willing to meet once a week for 10 weeks or twice a week for 5 weeks. After 10 weeks tune-up sessions are available if needed.

  • Ideal clients for this bodywork therapy understand that they are creating and responsible for their own transformation and have good support systems around them through the 10-week process and beyond.

  • Because this modality requires the client to be fully present for the experience, the client must not engage in substance use prior to attending sessions.

  • Intake session - $170; Sessions 2-9 - $150 per session. Tune-up sessions after the 10 weeks are $150 per session. Sliding scale options are available.

  • 3-day weekend intensive option is available for clients that have met with a Trauma Touch Therapy Practitioner for consultation and screening and have been determined to be an ideal candidate for intensive somatic therapy. 3-day weekend intensive is $2000, $500 deposit required for scheduling.

Join Dena Woods from Healing Lab Somatic Therapy for an 8 week yoga experience designed to gently get ourselves back in our bodies. Why do we need to get back into our bodies? When trauma happens, the mind, in an effort to protect us, creates a disconnect between mind and body. However, while this disconnect protects us from "negative" experiences, it also disconnects us from positive experiences. This series is designed to slowly and gently re-introduce sensation and bodily presence into our experience. Each 75 minute class incorporates reflection through journaling, gentle yoga, and restorative Savasana.

This class is ideal for anyone curious about embodiment practices and for clients that have graduated from the Trauma Touch Therapy program with Dena Woods.

$30 Drop-in or $200 for the full 8 week series.

Classes meet on Sundays at 12pm beginning 2/18/24.
